Total Training for Adobe® CS3 Production Premium Workflow
Start with some important tips on shooting and capturing video with OnLocation for a smoother rough cut. Then once you've organized the clips into bins in Premiere Pro, and added the clips to the timeline, you're ready to learn how to make still and motion graphics, such as an opening animation, a lower third, and a bug, using After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Next it's time to dive into all new Soundbooth to create the soundtrack score and polish the audio. Wrap up your production by creating DVD menus complete with interactivity, and output to a wide range of formats including DVD, Blu-Ray, Flash Video, and of course tape.

Premiere Pro offers an easy way to author a single timeline to a Disc. Highlight your timeline and go to File<Export<Export To Encore… then select your encoding settings. You can then name the Disc, choose to author with or without menus and pick your export range. Click OK and the transcoding begins. If you chose to author menus, the transcoded files load with Encore, and then you can create a menu or apply a template.

What is your favorite project you have ever worked on? |
| A: |
|
It would have to be a tie between two fairly recent projects of mine: A couple years ago, I had the opportunity to direct and program a very serious stage lighting rig for a major label band who covered Dark Side of the Moon in its entirely, live. I was essentially given carte blanche in the project, to interpret the music any way I liked, and create any visual effect I could think of. The final product, both the live concert and the concert DVD, were very well received, and it was exciting to have had the chance to put my mark on such an incredible performance. More recently, I have been creating some very cool and intriguing music with a good friend of mine, and we've been having a great time exploring new and uncharted areas in sound, melody, harmony, and musical feel. It's still a work in progress, so I don't even know where it will end up artistically yet, but it's great fun to be on the journey. Each new track we record surprises us in ways we never expected when we started!

What puts you into the (creative/production) mode and gets the creative juices flowing? |

I tend to get inspired at very strange times. It's something that hits me really hard when it happens, and it's like, "I need to get to a piano now!" If I don't take advantage of the moment when it hits, I find it very easy to loose the good creative vibe. Sometimes its a melody line I hear somewhere that suddenly develops into something different and cool in my head, sometimes I don't know where it comes from, and it just happens. I was very recently married, and at the risk of sounding cliched, recently I find that a lot of my inspiration and motivation comes from my wife. Either having her with me or thinking about her when we're apart is almost a sure-fire way of lighting the creative flame.
