May 2007 | Volume 4 | Issue 5

It Can't Be Done… Or Can It?

Months later, after endless closed-door meetings and cases of energy drinks, our proud, bleary-eyed staff is almost ready to release this "top secret" project that will revolutionize the future of training.

What could this mystery be? What's so hush-hush? Find out next week as we share the details of our brand new creation. Also, be sure to stay tuned to our newsletters, product announcements, and Web site.

Tip and Trick
Tip and Trick for Flash CS3 from John Ulliman, Presenter for Total Training for Adobe Flash CS3: Essentials
Full Bio

There are more ways to maximize your efficiency and workspace when it comes to panels. Under the Workspace submenu, there are three new options with CS3:

· Default
· Icons and Text Default
· Icons Only Default

If you choose the first option, your panels work like they have in previous versions - you can choose to dock or arrange them as you like. The other two options convert your panels to icons mode and you simply have to click on a panel to open it up, and click anywhere outside the panel to close it.

The Text and Icon mode shows you an Icon for each panel and a text label for the panel name, but once you get used to the icons for each panel, you can choose Icon only and now all your panels are at your fingertips, yet not getting in the way while you are working on objects in the stage or timeline.

Presenter's Corner
We recently chatted with Dante Gagne, Total Training presenter for our upcoming Microsoft Expression Blend series, "Total Training for Microsoft Expression Blend: Essentials." Here is what we learned about him: Dante's Bio
Q: What is your favorite project you have ever worked on?
A: If you're talking about a professional project, Blend, by far has been my favorite. I've worked with several other professionally shipping projects, but none with the impact and real influence that Blend has. If you're talking about something within Blend itself, I really enjoyed writing the Animation Studio. It gets shipped with Blend as a sample. I had a ton of fun just figuring out how to make everything do what I wanted it to do, and then improve on it.

Q:

What is your most creative time?
A: Honestly? In the shower. It's probably because it's first thing in the morning and my mind is first waking up. Also, any time I'm alone doing something tedious, my mind tends to run off on creative endeavors. Driving to work is another time I tend to get my best ideas, which is why I make sure my Pocket PC has an Audio Record option.

Q:

When you're not plugged into work, what are you doing?
A: Through and through, I'm a gamer. I deeply enjoy board games, which usually influences what I build with Blend. I'm also a video game player, and I'm an avid "Role-Playing" gamer. I love telling stories and creating rich environments for my players
