View John's Full Bio Flash Professional 8 In a typical character animation, you have a lot of objects you are keeping track of - and so is the flash player. This can typically lead to a big slowdown for player performance and can often cause your animations to look sluggish. Flash 8 has a new feature for MovieClips called Bitmap Caching. You can turn this on without any penalty for any MovieClip you use in your presentation if you like. What this will do for you is save a copy of any image that isn't moving during playback and keep it from being re-rendered. This can dramatically speed up your movie playback - especially for background elements in your movies that are made from many vector objects. The object will only be re-rendered if it changes in some way, such as scaling or rotating. What most don't know about this feature is that an object that only changes location isn't counted as changing - so you can pan backgrounds or move elements and still take advantage of bitmap caching.
